Patrick Allotey (40-3, 30 KO), is relishing the opportunity to win both the world title on Saturday against the champion Jaime Munguia and the WBC Maya II title which is gifted to the world of boxing.
In an interview with assembled Ghanaian boxing writers which included Dennis Moore, Samuel Heywood Okine and the host Samuel Ofosuhene, Allotey indicated his readiness to take advantage of the opportunity presented. Stating;
“My ambition is to become world champion, It does not matter who I fight, the vision is the same. It is going to be just me and Manguia in the ring and I am resolved to win the world title for myself and my country.” Allotey stated on the weekly boxing show dubbed “Ultimate Sports”.
Patrick Allotey is the current World Boxing Organisation Africa Super Welterweight champio, ranked number 12 by the WBO and comes up against an undefeated defending champion in Mexican Jaime Munguia (33-0, 26 KO) on September 14.
Manguia’s confidence got battered in his last fight against Hogan which he controversially won and plans to recover that self confidence against the Ghanaian relatively unknown on the international scene.
In a bid to promote his upcoming fight with Patrick Allotey, Jaime Munguia announced his intentions to move up from 154 to 160 after his fight on Saturday.
“Ok first of all I will like to thank my management for putting me on the map that I can face the world champion Jamie Munguia, because in boxing, you need to fight with the best and because I think I am also the best.” Allotey expressed earlier.
The Ghanaian is under no illusion the tough task ahead and the opportunity to win a world title at stake, hence making his intentions clear to Jaime
“I also respect Jamie(Manguia) is a great fighter but I’m also African warrior who is coming to cause surprise on the 14th September.” Patrick Allotey responded to an earlier message by the defending champion.
“My desire on Sept 14 is to demonstrate everything I’ve been learning with my new trainer Erick Morales. I have a great fighter in front of me (Patrick Allotey) and we are going to show it in the ring.” Munguia had earlier expressed.
The Mexican stands three inches taller than the Ghanaian but is also on the decendancy as he struggled to win a controversial twelve rounder majority decision over Irishman Dennis Hogan in a mandatory fight on April 13 this year at the Arena Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico.
The self styled ‘Sweet Poisonous Arrow’ is brewing with confidence, going into this important career defining titanic battle set for Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson, California, USA to mark the celebration of Mexican Independence Day Weekend.
Can Patrick Allotey pen his name in the books of Ghanaian world champions which includes hall of famer Professor Azumah Nelson, D.K Poison, Ike Quartey, Nana Yaw Konadu, Alfred Kotey, Joseph Agbeko, Joshua Clottey, Isaac Dogboe, Emmanuel Tagoe and Richard Commey?
