Ministry of Youth & Sports To Support National Teams Athletes And Coaches

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) president Ben Nunoo Mensah who has been holding series of meetings with the Minister of Youth & Sports, Hon Isaac Kwame Asiamah on the way forward for Ghana Sports in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic is optimistic that all would be well.

According to the hard working GOC president who doubles as the president of Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF), they are finding ways and means of supporting national team athletes who are staying home during the lock down period.

He said every Ghanaian need support and sportsmen and women can not be left out in the economic challenging times.

The GOC president hinted that he has also met the special advisor to the sports minister, Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah and they are putting up a document to be presented to the Minister of Finance.

Ben Nunoo Mensah stressed that sports has been contributing to the socio economic development of the nation as those who do sports advertise and bring joy to the nation, aside the medals they achieve.

He said the national athletes who are amateurs need support and urged the federation presidents to hold the fort as they await the government aid.

The president of the GOC expressed that postponing the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games was decided by the IOC to save lives, and was a good decision. He however urged the athletes who are preparing to communicate with their presidents and coaches to know current developments. He also advised all sports lovers to stay at home to stop the spread of the coronavirus aka covid -19 as well as observe the safety protocols .
