Media And Sports Administrators Must Work Positively Together – GOC President

President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Ben Nunoo Mensah has called for a cordial and fruitful working relationship with the media and sports federations heads to be able to attract the attention that would earn them their goals.

The GOC president who doubles as the boss of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) said the media has a big role and responsibility to play to promote, market and sell Ghana Sports positively, yet people with hidden and evil agendas are in the system doing things that retard the development of the nation.

According to the GOC president 2020 is an Olympic Year and the media must promote Olympism throughout the season, not only wait for the fortnight celebration of world sport in Tokyo, Japan.

Ben Nunoo Mensah urged sports journalists to use their mediums such as television, radio, print and online to promote sports disciplines and sports personalities who are in the news, as well as set positive agendas that would bring progress.

He said sports in an expensive venture, but the benefits are enormous because if one sportsman or woman makes it big, the rewards reach many people.

The GOC president who was one of the dignitaries who graced the book launch of Coach Dr. James Kwesi Appiah at the Alisa Swiss Spirit Hotel last Friday evening also advised the media to document their works and also help sportsmen and women to chronicle their sporting achievements.

President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Kwabena Yeboah perfectly agreed with the GOC president and added that most sports journalist who cause problems are not SWAG members as the Association has been periodically organizing workshops and seminars to refresh and upgrade the horizon as well as orientation of the media.

Meanwhile, SWAG with support of Betway will organize a course for journalists in Kumasi and Accra on February 5th and 7th respectively.
