Philipino Senator, Manny Pacquiao, is contemplating on running for president in 2022, according to old time pal and promoter Bob Arum.

“I did a Zoom telephone call with him, “Bob, I’m gonna run in 2022, and when I win, I want you there at my inauguration.'” Arum quoted a dialogue with Pacquiao.

In 2007, the back to back world champion, Manny Pacquiao decided to enter into mainstream Philipino politics when he ran and lost to Darlene Custodio as representative of South Cotabato’s First District.

The defeat propelled Pacquiao to relocate his base to Sarangani, where he was eventually elected as representative in 2010.

In 2017, Philippines President, Rodrigo Duterte, once predicted Pacquiao as his successor, tagging him as the next President, during a birthday party.

“I told him while we were alone, I want you to become president,” said president Duterte.

“The determination you have shown and the humility embodied in the glorious triumph are worthy of emulation. Continue to inspire as we lead them towards a more prosperous life.” He expressed.

Although the president later cautioned the boxing legend to do proper introspection if he contemplates running for the presidency.

“Politicians should think about [running for president] carefully. Manny, I think Manny is entertaining, well it’s good… Getting tired is the only thing you get from this work,” said Duterte.

What is unclear is whether the Senator cum boxing legend harbours the same political ambitions since he is yet to make any public pronouncements.
