Manny Pacquaio floored Lucas Mathysse via a 7th round TKO in a one sided affair
Philipino senator and boxing legend Manny Pacquaio (60-7-2, 39 KOs) early on this morning silenced his nemesis Lucas Mathysse of Argentina via a seventh round TKO at Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and claimed Mathysse’ WBA regular welterweight title.
Many wrote him off heading into the bout but the Philipino pugilist dominated the bout with skill, speed and awkward angles to score his first stoppage in almost a decade.
As expected the ever religious Pacquaio had some few words for his God “Thank God for this victory, This is all dedicated to God and all the Filipino people. Thank you to our country and our president for watching this fight.” Pacquaio told the partisan crowd.
“We did a good job and my team in training, We were not pushing hard like we did when we were very young. We controlled ourselves in the training but it’s heavy training.
Thanks to all of my team for working hard in this fight.” The full time Philipino senator further reiterated.
In an almost a one sided affair, Lucas Matthysse (39-5, 36 KOs) just failed to glitter. He struggled throughout and was unbelievably slow in defence and attack. He hardly landed any delightful punches.
A romantic uppercut in the 3rd round sent the Argentine brawler to the canvas and that was the case in the 7th round as well. What got referee Kenny Bayless to wave off the fight was when he spit out his mouthpiece.
But lucas Mathysse was very magnanimous in defeat “Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, Today was my turn to lose and I lost to a great fighter and a great legend in Manny Pacquiao. [I’m going to] take a rest, take a break.
I worked really hard and I want to go back home to my family. This is part of boxing that you win some and lose some. Today was my turn to lose but nothing more.” Mathysse said after the bout.
One thing remain sacred and that is the fact the Manny Pacquaio is not a finished product yet.
