LAWSON TO STAY “VIRGIL” ON ORTIZ SATURDAY NIGHT.
Vergil Ortiz is looking past Ghana’s Frederick Lawson.
Come tomorrow Saturday at the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, Ghana’s Frederick Lawson will take on Vergil Ortiz for what the former thinks is a tune-up fight.
“After this fight, I want to fight the best. I don’t want to take any detours or anything like that. If we can get the big fights happening, then I will, but at the same time, I’m not going to wait for anybody. I’m going to continue my schedule as it is.” He told the press.
“I expect not to have as impressive performance, but a complete domination. Maybe not like a Mauricio Herrera or something like that, but getting there,”
“I think we’re going to be good enough to look good but not to my standard. That’s what I’m trying to say. I’m not going to look as good as I want to look, but I’m still going to look good. “Ortiz bullishly expressed.
But Freddy Lawson was extremely calm, perhaps too calm as he rather took the opportunity to thank his team and manager as well as the promoter for making the fight possible.
Jacob Zwennes, Lawson’s long-time manager, was left with no choice but to do the talking on behalf of his boxer.
“General Okunka,” as he is affectionately called currently has 30 wins and 3 losses, 22 of those victories coming by way of knockouts.
His opponent, Vergil Ortiz Jr., although undefeated in 19 attempts, with a 100 percent knockout ratio, has been away from the square ring for long , as his last outing was against Michael McKinson in August 2022.
