ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION: LAWSON, A HEAVY FAVOURITE AS HE CLASHES WITH RUIZ.

Under the staples of the TOP RANK promotions, Frederick “General Okunka” Lawson clashes with Juan Ruiz on an undercard of the Gvozdyk-Ngumbu fight night at the 2300 Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

TALE OF THE TAPES

Ruiz 32, rides on an appreciable record of 103 rounds of boxing and 26 fights. He has won 21, lost 4 and 13 of the wins by way of KO (50%).

Ruiz has reach advantage coming into this fight with same height as Lawson.  He is a counter puncher, loves the center ring fight but shys away from pound for pound exchanges. He is aggressive with jabs but with lazy combination of punches. He has weak defense and will always back track as he leaves his left hand in the way to avoid being caught by an overhead hook.

Lawson 29, on other hand has an imposing record of 136 rounds of boxing, 28 bouts with 1 loss, 27 wins, 21 by way of KO (75%). Lawson has good defence with solid right and left jabs with beautiful combination of punches.

The Ghanaian is dangerous on the aggression with straight right and loves the pound for pound exchanges. Lawson will need to do the aggression in this particular encounter and engage Ruiz in the pound for pound exchanges. He must not allow Ruiz the space to cash in on the reach advantage but rather trap him to a caging encounter.

Obviously Lawson comes as the heavy favourite and looks to finish the fight in by KO. I call the fight for “THE GENERAL” as he exhibits his general role in the ring on the 30th of March.
