Ghana’s sole heavyweight boxer and the current World Boxing Organisation’s Africa champion Richard Lartey tilted the scales this morning at the Wembley Arena in anticipation of his impending bout tomorrow April 27 at the Wembley Arena.

A visibly nervous Daniel Dubois had few words to say after seeing the fearsome look of the Ghanaian Harrison Lartey.

” I am only gonna go in there and do my best. I do not know much about him (Richard Lartey) so just gonna go in there and do my best” Daniel Dubois told boxingghana.com’s Samuel Ofosuhene.

Earlier statement from the camp of current WBO number 13 rated fighter,  Britain’s Daniel Dubois said they were looking for a replacement for their boxer, ruling out any possibility of the fight to commence as scheduled due to visa issues;

“Due to visa issues that have arisen with unbeaten heavyweight Daniel Dubois’ opponent, today’s final press conference for Saturday night’s show at the SSE Arena, Wembley will no longer go ahead. Richard Lartey of Ghana is unable to get into the UK and Queensbury Promotions is now working to find a suitable replacement for Dubois.

The fight card is scheduled to be streamed by ESPN+ in the USA.” The statement said.

But that was a direct response to an earlier statement by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana’s (SWAG) best promotional outfit Cabic Promotions and Management which read;

“48 hours to fight day now but the British High Commission in Accra have refused to release the passport and visa of Ghana’s WBO Africa heavyweight champ, Richard Harrison Lartey to enable him travel to the UK for his much publicised WBO Global heavyweight title fight against the highly rated Brit, Daniel Dubois at Wembley, London this Saturday, April 27.”

The statement further gave contacts to call for further and better particulars.

But team Cabic did everything possible to make sure they emplane the boxer to the UK and even though they only arrived this morning at the Holiday Inn Hotel, Richard Lartey is confident of victory tomorrow

“Look, I know the tactics and the ploy but regardless I am here for a win. I am going to knock Daniel Dubois out by round 6, the victory is for God, Ghana and Africa . Yes I am the song of the Eagle and all I need are prayers from Ghanaians and indeed all Africans”

Twelve hours ago, it was unclear whether the scheduled bout between Ghana’s Richard Lartey and Daniel Dubois was going to  happen and rumours were rife even here in the UK of an underhand tactics but now we have a fight and both fighters are ready for a show come tomorrow.
