KHELIF GOES FOR GOLD AMID REPORTS OF ALGERIA JOINING IBA’S RIVAL BOXING BODY

She battles China’s world champion Wang Liu in tonight’s final

Imane Khelif (pictured right against Hungary’s Anna Luca Hamori) is aiming for gold tonight as sources told AFBC Communications Algeria may have joined World Boxing.

She fights China’s world champion Wang Liu in Paris Olympics welterweight final.

The Algerian boxer has already made history as Africa’s first ever female boxer to win an Olympic medal. Now she wants that medal to be gold which will be a remarkable feat in her turbulent participation at the Paris Olympics .

Khelif has weathered a stormy gender debate to punch her way to the finals, and insiders told me the Algerian federation has not been amused at how the international Boxing Association (IBA) handled their boxer as from last year when she was disqualified for failing the eligibility criteria in the Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi, India.

The Technical Director of the Algerian federation Mourad Meziane has yet to respond to my query on them joining World Boxing.

IBA’s Secretary-General and CEO Chris Roberts has also not responded on reports of Algeria quitting IBA. Nigeria is so far the only African country that has left IBA to join World Boxing.
