AMINA MARTHA IN QUARTERS
The Kenyan boxer now meets Botswana’s Phekie Bele

Kenya’s Amina Martha (pictured) punched her way into the bantamweight quarter-finals in the ongoing African Games boxing tournament in Accra, Ghana.

She dictated the pace to score an impressive 5-0 points win over Ghana’s Sarah Apew, and now meets Botswana’s 2022 Africa bronze medallist Phekie Bele.

If she gets past Bele and moves to the semis, Amina, who grew up in a violent and broken home, will clash with the winner of the quarter-final bout between Sierra Leone’s 2022 Africa champion Sara Haghighat-Joo and Nigeria’s Shukura Kareem.

Wherever two-time Olympian Benson Gicharu is, he must be feeling proud to watch his product Amina putting into action the boxing fundamentals he taught her at his slum club, Mukuru Fight-4-Life.

We wish Amina the best of luck in the quarters.
