The final eliminator bout for the WBA World light heavyweight title is officially set for August 19 between unbeaten Ghana-born Brit Joshua Buatsi and another unbeaten Brit Dan Azeez.
Both boxers, Joshua Buatsi (17-0, 13KOs) and Dan Azeez (19-0, 13KOs) are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 respectively by World Boxing Association (WBA) since November 2022.
The Accra born boxer Joshua Buatsi who currently resides in Croydon, London, will look forward to earn a world title shot for the first time in his career after an incredible record of 17 wins out of 17 commanding a fiery knockout ratio of 76.47%.
The 30 year old Joshua Buatsi knocked out 10 of his last 12 opponents with the recent 2 fights ending in unanimous decision wins against Craig Richards and the then unbeaten Polish Pawel Stepien.
Buatsi’s nemesis come August 19, Dan “Super” Azeez promises to be a tough opponent who holds the European Boxing Union (EBU) Light Heavyweight title after knocking out Thomas Faure in the final round (12) on March 12, 2023.
Dan Azeez is not just the EBU light heavy champion, he’s the BBBofC light heavy champion and the Commonwealth Boxing Council light heavyweight champion as well. He defeated Shakan Peters via unanimous decision on September 3 last year to win the BBBofC title and also knocked out Rocky Fielding in the 8th round to win the vacant Commonwealth Boxing Council title, retaining his BBBofC title as well.
The current WBA Super World light heavyweight champion, Dmitry Bivol (21-0, 11KOs) will surely face a real contender as the winner of Buatsi vs Azeez will become the mandatory challenger for his title.
