Joseph Awinongya is rated the number one best amateur boxer in America

In the very latest USA rankings for young amateur 90lbs released yesterday, Ghana’s star in the making Joseph “Jo Jo” Awinongya is now the number one best athlete in the powerful nation of America.

At his young age, Joseph has been compared to the likes of Floyd Mayweather and is already a four-time national USA champion who recently placed second in the Eastern qualifiers.

In the latest rankings , the young Ghanaian sensation representing Joliet, Illinois, came first amongst other crack young pugilist like Luis Vazquez from California, Ahmed Almajdi from the state of Texas, Jesus Rodriguez from the State of Utah.

Other promising notable boxers that succumbed to the exploits of the young JoJo includes Jose Vasquez who represents the State of Texas, Anthony Espino from the state of Montana, Aldo Blancas of Wisconsin, Quintin Zastrow representing Hawaii, Terry Sanders of Florida, Brandon Soto of Oregon and Andres Medina from Wisconsin.

Adopted by your most authoritative boxing portal BoxingGhana.com and HSTV Ghana, the news came when the host of Ultimate Sports on HSTV, Samuel Ofosuhene was profiling a documentary on Joseph Awinongya Jr’s visit to Mayweather Gym.

On live television, supporters and viewers of the sports show took the opportunity to congratulate the Ghanaian promising star who is making mother Ghana proud in the United States and by extension all Africans.

Last year 2018, at the second Silver Gloves national championship, which he won,  Joseph Awinongya was invited to the James R. Thompson Center in Chicago, where he was honoured by Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White.

What is clear is the fact that the young athlete is gradually commanding a lot of following in Ghana and warming himself into the hearts of most Africans.

Credit must be accorded Jo Jo’s father Joseph Awinongya Sr, a former professional boxer himself, who has sacrificed training young boxers at his former Will County Boxing Club to concentrate on his son and protege.

Boxingghana.com will keep readers updated on the very latest on Joseph Awinongya Jr.
