Joseph Agbeko’s world title bout against Paul Butler cancelled
Ghanaian boxer Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko has had his dreams of becoming a three-time world champion crashed after Probellum, a boxing promotion company, called off his bout against Paul Butler.
The 44-year-old Ghanaian who is former International Boxing Federation (IBF) World Bantamweight Champion was replaced to fight Butler in a bout scheduled for Saturday, December 11 in Dubai after World Boxing Organisation (WBO) bantamweight champion John Riel Casimero pulled out sighting illness.
But Probellum announced on Twitter on Saturday: “the WBO Interim bantamweight title fight between Paul Butler and Joseph Agbeko will no longer be taking place on tonight’s event.”
Probellum stated no reasons for the bout been called off despite authorization from WBO to hold the bout on Saturday.
“Probellum informed the WBO that current #10 rated WBO contender Joseph Agbeko is ready, willing and able to participate against Butler. Therefore, Probellum seeks authorization for a sanction for the WBO bantamweight championship title belt between Butler and Agbeko.
“Having considered these circumstances and the conditions stated in the purse bid minutes from Thursday, October 7th, this committee will issue a sanction for an interim bantamweight championship bout to the Butler-Agbeko contest,” Excerpts of the statement said.
