Boxing has over the months rejuvenated in Ghana and it’s all thanks to some promoters, boxing managers and the Ghana Boxing Authority who have taken a step to assist bring more world titles to the table.
John ‘Expensive Boxer’ Laryea after his thrills in the ring promised Ghanaians he was going to deliver a title and he did it gallantly after his ‘David and Goliath’ affair.
Facing his Namibian opponent Sabastianus Nathaneal for the WBO African Featherweight title, ‘Expensive Boxer’ Laryea showed he was ready as he faced Nathaneal.
John Laryea is not only an ‘Expensive Boxer’ but also iron skinned as he took all the punches of Sabastianus while throwing some wicked counter punches which hurt the Namibian.
In the fourth round, a punch from John Laryea caused a devastating cut on the upper left eye of the defending champion and the Namibain could not continue the fight.
John ‘Expensive Boxer’ Laryea became the new WBO African Featherweight champion by way of TKO and Ghanaians could not keep their calm as they jubilated with many singing praises of a promise fulfilled.
After been crowned the new WBO African Featherweight champion, John ‘Expensive Boxer’ Laryea said in the GA dilet which translates “I am working with my team so what my team tells me is what I follow, not that I am scared of anyone in the Featherweight division but rather what my coach Carl Lokko and my manager Samuel Anim Addo says that is what we work with.”
He continued in his victory speech saying, “all in all I am telling Ghanaians not to forget, they should expect a world title from me. Now this is my 10th fight and I have picked a WBO title and in my 14th fight I will bring a world title. This belt is my own, I tell Sabastianus already”.
With many expecting the ‘Expensive Boxer’ to pursue a world title, it will depend on his management as he previously stated in his victory statement.
“Ghana congratulates you for your heroic and fulfilled promise” said Mr. Okine who has been a keen supporter of John Laryea.
