EAST AFRICAN BOXERS UNDER INTENSE PRESSURE
▫️ It’s now or never for the 10 boxers in the region eager to make an impression

The 10 East African boxers are well aware that so far no boxer from the region has qualified for the Paris Olympics.

So, are they ready again for another sight-seeing expedition?

Kenya (6), Uganda (3) and Tanzania (1) have paraded their best boxers to show their commitment to be in Paris. The Kenyans in Bangkok are bantamweight Amina Martha Faki, welterweight Friza Anyango (pictured), middleweight Liz Andiego, light-middleweight Boniface Mogunde, light-heavyweight Edwin Okong’o and heavyweight Peter Abuti. Uganda have Germany-based pro boxer light-middleweight Muzamir Kakande, light-heavyweight Shadiri Bwogi and super-heavy Regarn Simbwa and Tanzania’s sole representative and their boxing posterboy Yusuf Changalawe carrying the aspirations of over 50 million Tanzanians.

Booking a ticket will not be as easy as others imagine. With all the boxers desperate to make it in the final qualifiers, the Bangkok event promises to be fiercely contested. Grit, perseverance, creativity, confidence, self belief and mental strength are some of the much needed qualities in this do-or-die showdown.

We wish all the 10 East African boxers the best of luck.
