In an interview with ESPN, Saul Canelo Alvarez apologised for mistakenly administering a banned substance called clenbuterol while training for his re-match with old foe Gennady Golovkin.

“I don’t want to get anyone else involved. This was my mistake for not reading up on the risks, not researching more, more on the subject, on what’s going on with the beef in Mexico.” Saul Alvarez said.

Many pundits felt Canelo’s excuses was not that sound to merit just a six month suspension but the Mexican sharply disagrees.

“But I didn’t do anything intentionally, I didn’t do anything to try to enhance my performance. I would never do anything like that. It was a mistake and nothing more, not educating myself about this problem in Mexico. It was my mistake, and I won’t repeat it.” Canelo echoed when quizzed on the subject.

But even Gennady Golovkin shares the sentiment and feels aggrieved that the sanctioning body did not deal with the matter hard enough.

The Nevada boxing regulators gave Canelo Alvarez a reduced penalty for doping violations for just six months instead of the standard one year.

The very lucky Mexican, Canelo, is  now about to have a second bite at the cherry come next month.

Canelo’s record now stands  (49-1-2, 34 KOs), while his counter-part Golovkin possess (38-0-1, 34 KOs).

With the new fight date set on September 15, boxing lovers are expecting nothing but a good clean fight.

Golovkin, nicknamed ‘Triple G’, comes into the September bout still undefeated, having won 37 bouts and 33 by way of a straight knockouts.

The re-match between the two pugilist is scheduled at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States of American.

Win or defeat, Alvarez is set to make 20 million dollars from the bout as purse with 15 million to the undefeated champion Gennady Golovkin if the bout should peoceed as planned.
