“IT DOES NOT MAKE BUSINESS SENSE TO USE THE BUKOM ARENA FOR BOUTS” – MICHAEL NII YARBOI ANNAN

The affable Chief Executive Officer of Don’s promotions Michael Nii Yarboi Annan is of the view that the whole Bukom boxing arena business does not make boxing attractive financially to organise bouts.

Speaking with BoxingGhana’s Samuel Ofosuhene ahead of the second event billed for May 10, 2019  which sees the hugely anticipated battle between Robert Quaye and Marios Matamba, he made his position known on the cost implications of using the facility

“It’s going to cost you almost GHC 20,000ghc to use the place. So if you charge 20ghc per person you need 1,000 fans to come in just to cover the use of the arena, plus poor security which means you need to bring in your own security. Yes, that’s a real challenge.”

It cost not less than the amount stated to organise a bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena, a development which is scaring most promoters and businessmen away.

“It does not make business sense and it seems no one can talk including the GBA.” He told BoxingGhana.

The financial auditor and promoter left no stone unturned in asserting his views on a problem so silently endemic on most boxing promoters in Ghana.

“Let’s face it, these boxers do not have supporters who can buy tickets.

Their supporters want free tickets, even industry players wants tickets free.” He retorted.

There are so many aspiring promoters and current promoters who share the same sentiments and feel it is rather retrogressing the sports.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the best business decision were aligned with the best promotional decisions? In this regard, corporate Ghana is being called on to partner, and the handlers of the facility must start working on it or risk losing customers to other alternatives.

The Bukom Boxing Arena was meant to promote the sweet science of pugilism, but not to deter potential business investors from harvesting on the native bukom boxing edifice.
