Dogboe hails new trainer Barry Hunter after Avalos victory
Former WBO Super Bantamweight champion Isaac Dogboe has praised new trainer Barry Hunter after his victory over Chris Avalos.
The former world champion expressed happiness with his work rate under Hunter who won the WBO’s trainer of the year award and co-trainer Patrice Harris.
Hunter was heard shouting instructions to Dogboe before the Ghanaian moved in to finish his opponent before the bell went to signal the end of the fight in round 8.
Dogboe pointed out that listening to Hunter was key to his victory over Avalos. ” I had to listen. I could hear his voice telling me to just take my time and relax.”
“Sometimes I was more or less like a little bit tense and once I listened and went with the flow everything was just flowing off the jabs and I felt great.”
Dogboe had his father Paul as lead trainer when he beat Jessie Magdaleno to win the WBO Super Bantamweight title in 2018.
He had a stint with legendary trainer Freddie Roach and James ‘Light Out’ Toney before eventually settling on Hunter and Harris.
