The simmering mouthwash brag in the Junior featherweight house is real, and not fake.
Boxingghana has been taking a closer insight into how the unification drama will unfold.
By the close of this article you will be convinced about who the Royal Storm should prey on first. Stay on!
CURRENT HAPPENINGS :
The Super Bantamweight enclave is becoming pretty lively thanks to the recent exploits of an emerging storm from the coast of West Africa-Ghana.
In fact until Dogboe rose to limelight with some emphatic and clearances especially against the likes of John Tabanao, Cesar Juarez and Jesse Magdaleno, no one cared about the in- house business in that division. All attention has been shifted to the heavyweight wardrobe where Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder made the headlines the most.
The superbamtamweight division is now active especially in Africa, kind courtesy Isaac Dogboe.
By that material time Jesse Magdaleno was nursing his injuries. And when he tasted his first loss against the Ghanaian, it became obvious that a unification chapter was about to be established.
One would wonder how these “small boys” are already dreaming big in amassing their coffers at this age. And that the only prerequisite was to focus on winning consistently before hitting the jackpot. But these boys are simply adamant.
Immediately after obliterating the ageing Japanese, HIDENORI OTAKE, the rising star of africa has since placed a wanted list on a sure bet with the “baby face assassin”- Danny Roman.
That takes me to a different level on who really Danny Roman is.
18 months ago he was nobody .An unknown boxer from the West Coast fighting mostly at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California whose reign in WBA super bantamweight division began from the 3rd September, 2017.
With a 25-2-1 (9) record,he has lived up to the billing as the weight controller in that category.
In 2017, Roman then 24–2-1 (9)Kos got a shot to face then undefeated Adam Lopez in a Junior Featherweight eliminator. Roman stopped him in 9.
That catapulted him to an elite standing on the WBA log, earning him a trip to Japan to challenge Japanese native champion -Shun Kubo. Roman stunned the far east pugilist yet with another round 9 stoppage.
His first defense was against another Japanese, Ryo Matsumoto which he easily squeezed past.
Then came another tough customer for his second defense -Moises Flores 25-0-17 Kos, aged 31 from Mexico.
Flores had earlier succumbed to ring general Guillermo rigondeux in Vegas on the Andre Ward/ Kovalev 2 undercard. Flores was knocked out in round 1.
It is becoming seemingly clear that Dogboe and Roman have a destiny to accomplish.
THE DIVISIONS:
WBC SUPERBAMTAMWEIGHT
A little insight into the superbamtamweight terrain reveals the vintage exploits of past champions who left mammoth legacies to behold.
The likes of Wilfredo Gomez in 1977, Australia’s Jeff fenech in 1987, Erik “El terrible” Morales in 1997, Israel Vazquez in 2007, Abner Mares in 2012, Leo Santa Cruz in 2013, Hoizumi Hasegawa in 2016.
WBA SUPERBAMWEIGHT
In 2000, Erik Morales once again heralded this division in style. In the same year, ring foe and Mexico icon Marco Antonio Barrera had a share in the stakes.
In 2001, Agapito Sanchez dominated. Fast forward to 2011, Jorge Arce represented.
In 2012, Philipino star Nonito Donaire glittered in this very division.
In 2013, Ring terror, Guillermo Ringondeux was in the books.
Nonito Donaire was once again present in the year 2015.
In 2016, Jesse Magdaleno recorded his credentials in this division with blonde pride until in 2018 a certain Royal Storm became the class prefect.
WBA SUPERBAMTAMWEIGHT :
Not much will be said about this division but I will quickly refer our memories to Scott Quigg in 2013 ; Carl Frampton in 2016 with Nehomar Cermeho controlling the affairs in this house presently.
PERMUTATIONS:
The stage is set immediate permutations in the not too distant future. Somewhere November this year. For sure.
I expect too see WBC Superbamweight King Rey Geovani Vargas Roldan ,to head for his fourth defense of his strap against Abigail Medina ,the number one contender in that division.
IBF Irish champion, Terence John Doheny seems aging at 31 and might seek to have a bite of the cherry against any opponent available to improve his infant triumph on Ryosuke Iwasa. He currently stands 20-20-14Kos.
Now, the WBO and WBA custodians must surely do it. Both boxers will surely add more heat in the division.
Hear Roman: ” if everything goes good after this fight I would like to unify with any of the champions. I don’t mind going back to Japan either to challenge the IBF champion. I must get past Flores first”. Which he did.
Recently in an interview with his trainer and matchmaker – Camponovo, the latter hinted at a unification delight with Isaac Dogboe.
I couldn’t believe my eyes when just this week when a certain Arnold Khegan- an ethnic Korean and an Ukrainian- born threw a diarrhoea- challenge at Dogboe after the latter scaled past HIDENORI OTAKE. Interesting. Khegan, says ” I feel I am the best superbamtamweight in the world. I want to prove my point by fighting the most avoided fighters in the division”.
The dreaming Ukrainian born Korean stands 13-0-1 with 9 KOs and had a unanimous decision over Adam Lopez in May.
He should be a persona non grata in this discourse for now.
The predictions on the permutations is thus ended. It’s Dogboe vs Danny Roman for the unification battle barring any unforseen hitch.
CONCLUSION:
OK so the brainstorming analysis is on. Isaac Dogboe must surely fulfill his unification dreams at all cost with Roman. Both boxers have been concentrating on this same issue in this past days. So what are they waiting for now?
An inevitable clash somewhere November wouldn’t be bad. And i know both camps would relish that.
With a paltry $65,000 in his bank accounts after sinking OTAKE, a much more sweeter purse would do this time. Let’s make it happen.
Boxing Ghana would also want to throw an arrow of good luck to Cesar Juarez 22-6-17Kos who comes up against Panamanian Jorge Sanchez 18-3-9 Kos this weekend.
The affable Mexican brawler tasted an unbelievable defeat at the hands of Isaac Dogboe some months back and is moving on in life with some impressive curriculum vitae, writing a winning script with 3 conservative wins in March and April this year. He is now rated IBF # 6 ; WBA # 7 and WBO # 11.
The cards are on the table. Let’s rally for Dogboe vs Roman to tango. Should it be on?
