Chief John Allotei Cofie Nii Kofi Ajenkwa III

Boxing is a sport that captures one like a spirit. And when Lawyer John Allotei Cofie a former amateur boxer was captured by this spirit he supported Ghanaian, African and global efforts in developing boxing.

He was part of the Ghana Boxing Promotions Syndicate that brought Ghana her first world champion David Kotei “Poison” in 1975. He worked his way from Chairman of Ghana Boxing Association (now Ghana Boxing Authority) GBA to the ultimate position as the first and only Ghanaian to be a life-long Vice-President of the World Boxing Council. A position he earned from the WBC Executives led by their life-long President the great Don Jose Suleiman Chagnon, the architect of modern boxing administration.

On the 14th of June 2015 Lawyer John Allotei Cofie who was also Nii Kofi Ajenkwa III, Ngleshie Amanfro Mantse (Traditional Chief). Departed this world and joined our Ancestors.

His physical body may be gone but his spirit lives and we are walking in his footprints. He believed in giving birth to our own champions here in Ghana and nurturing same to become world champions. The way forward is for us to have a competitive platform available to our young boxers.

We have Jamestown Weekend Boxing every Saturday in Jamestown in Accra working to continue the process of “borning our own champions”.
