The boxing world is getting ready for a unification bout between the World Boxing Association (Super) and WBC World Middleweight Champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Avarez and the International Boxing Federation World Middleweight Champion Daniel Jacobs on the 4th of May, 2019 at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, USA.
Canelo Alvarez (51-1-2, 35KOs) goes into this fight unbeaten in his last ten fights of which he fought Gennady Golovkin twice. The first one in September 2017 ended in a draw with the second being a rematch a year later. Canelo in the rematch won by majority decision in a 12 rounder.
Before their first bout, Golovkin had won his fight with Canelo’s current opponent Daniel Jacobs via a UD on March 18, 2017. Daniel Jacobs (35-2, 29 KOs) won his IBF title which was then vacant after it was stripped off Golovkin for failing to set up a mandatory defense against Ukrainian Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Jacobs then won against Derevyanchenko for the vacant title.
In an interview with Sky Sports, this is what Jacobs decleared “One hundred per cent I’m the best middleweight out there right now,”
“I went in there with Golovkin, the monster who no one wanted to face, and most would agree that I was the one who boxed better throughout and that my hand should’ve been raised. Golovkin has then gone on to defeat Canelo twice in my opinion, and although the official results say otherwise, I take a lot from my fight with Golovkin, and Golovkin’s fights with Canelo to believe that I’m the best middleweight there is right now. May 4th in Vegas is when you see me make it official.” Danny Jacobs added.
The Mexican fancies Daniel Jacobs as a better boxer than Golovkin
“Technically, yes, he’s a much better fighter,” Alvarez said. “His abilities are much better … he has one of the most complicated styles in boxing.” Canelo expressed.
It promises to be an exciting fight, and will be available to watch exclusively on DAZN come May the 4th.
