Ghana’s pride and sole world titlist Richard Commey (29-2, 24 KOs) is battle-ready and preparing to do the talk in the ring come 14 December 2019, against Honduran-American, Teofimo Lopez, in an elimination tussle.

For Commey, this is an opportunity to write a script at the famous citadel of modern boxing, Madison Square Garden, as expressed in his interview.

“I’m very excited to fight at the Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden, in my second world title defense against Teofimo Lopez,” Commey said. “My lifelong dream of becoming a world champion became a reality through many years of hard work in my homeland of Ghana, through the UK, Europe and finally in the United States. I want to thank everyone on my team for making this possible.” Commey remarked.

For Commey, a role model to many young lads in Bukom, Jamestown, a suburb in Accra-Ghana, this fight presents a perfect opportunity not just to win, but equally put up a spectacular performance to once again woo boxingdom as well as pro Teofimo press and stake a claim for a unification battle next year with Lomachenko.

“On December 14, I will put on another spectacular performance in defending my world title for my fans in the arena and those watching on ESPN and around the world.” The self styled ‘Azonto’ Commey reiterated.

Teofimo Lopez, the big-talking fighter, was in his very usual elements touting how he intends to shut critics up with a victory and rule the lightweight division.
“I’m finally back at Madison Square Garden, the place where I always wanted to win my first world title,” Lopez said. “I believe this fight will shut up all of the critics and prove to everyone that I back up my talking in the ring. I respect Commey as a champion, but when we’re in that ring, it’s going to be lights out for him. Come December 14, I am officially taking over the lightweight division.” Lopez stated.

With the hype, many connoisseurs would have predicted a Lopez victory, but for his debacle that exposed him blatantly against Japanese veteran Masayoshi Nakatani in a title eliminator on Friday 19, July 2019 at the MGM National Harbor, Oxon Hill, Maryland, USA.

For sure, this bout is set for the boxing gods and BoxingGhana will be there to report the news as and when it breaks…..Keep reading.
