International Boxing Federation (IBF) world lightweight champion, Ghana’s Richard Oblitey Commey took time to thank the fans, sponsors and organisers of the just concluded 44th edition of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) awards having emerged the winner of the professional boxer of the year honours.
The Ghanaian, who worked his way to a world title shot in 2018 after dispatching the then undefeated Alejandro Luna and later Yardley Armanta Cruz before crowning it with a world title early this year against Russian Isa Chaniev on February 2nd, was appreciative of the honour as expressed in his tweet.
“I would like to personally thank all who voted for me to make me the SWAG professional boxer of the year, I am very humbled to win this award and I want to thank all my team as I wouldn’t be able to achieve this without you! God bless you all.!” Commey stated.
His manager, Michael Amoo Bediako gave a clue via an earlier tweet.
“I spoke to Richard Commey yesterday, and he has expressed how proud he is to be voted the SWAG professional boxer of the year. He would like to thank all who voted for him, and the sponsors of the event MTN.” The CEO of Streetwise Managment had reavealed.
These are exciting times, as the Ghanaian hard puncher recently joined forces with astute U.S. pugilist manager Keith Connolly to assist in guiding Commey’s career.
Commey is set to make his first defense in July against either Raymundo Beltran, a former world champion or America’s most hyped boxing sensation, Teofimo Lopez.
