IBA JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2023: NO RESPITE FOR AFRICA

Five boxers from Africa have now been bundled

It’s another bad day in the office for African boxers taking part in the Junior World Boxing Championships in Yerevan, Armenia.

In today’s schedule, two female boxers, Zimbabwe’s Julaykah Balakazi and Janki Diva from Mauritius lost their bantamweight fights.

Balakazi was beaten 4-1 by Spain’s Garcia Peinado while Diva went down 5-0 to Poland’s Zuzanna Golebiewska.

With the latest defeats, the number of casualties from Africa has swelled to five. Others out are Rwanda’s Valentin Ntabanganyimana, Zimbabwe’s Bright Moyo and Tunisia’s Mohamed Hazaoui.

Twelve boxers from Zimbabwe, Tunisia, Rwanda and Mauritius entered the global junior event for boxers aged 15-16. Seven are remaining, and it’s our hope they’ll be able to squeeze at least one win each.
