“I have worked my whole life for this”- Teofimo Lopez
The Madison Square Gardens will be lit with arguably the most exciting card this Saturday the 14th of December 2019.
“This is the best fight card of the year, and Madison Square Garden is a fitting venue for what will be a special night,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum when he had the opportunity to comment on the triple header this Saturday.
Teofimo Lopez, the mandatory challenger to the IBF Lightweight champion Richard Commey took to his Twitter handle with high hopes of annexing the IBF strap wrote, “9 weeks of Camp! December 14th we will be more than ready. I have worked my whole life for this moment” Lopez twitted.
Lopez 22, (14-0, 11KOs) defeated Masayoshi Nakathani on decision July 2019 in an elimination contest for the mandatory status.
“Teofimo Lopez is taking a giant step up against Commey, and it will be a tremendous fight” said Bob Arum.
In the wake of his outing against Edis Tatli on April 20, questions remain as to whether the 2018 ESPN prospect of the year can make 135 pounds again. While he didn’t have many issues stopping Tatli in five rounds once he stepped into the ring, the week leading up to the fight was a disaster.
The challenge of making the weight nearly derailed the bout. Lopez revealed that he almost pulled out of the fight four times, due to personal stress and the toll of cutting weight. He subsequently struggled in making the weight for the Nakathani fight, Lopez was assigned a top dietitian Michelle Ingles, who placed him on a strict diet regime ahead of weigh-in.
We have a fight on the 14th of December and all looks ready this time for Teofimo Lopez.
