“I don’t believe he’s (Lomachenko) the best fighter in boxing by a long way” – Richard Commey

IBF world champion, Richard Commey has made it clear that he does not subscribe to the assertion that the Ukranian poster boy Lomachenko is the best fighter in the game.

“I don’t believe he’s the best fighter in boxing by a long way. He has a tremendous amateur background, but this is professional boxing, they are two different sports. Personally, I think Canelo, Crawford, Spence and Wilder are above.

“Crawford went and took the belt off Ricky Burns in his own back yard and Spence done the same to Kell Brook, Canelo was the B side against Mayweather and Wilder was prepared to go to Russia to defend his title.” Richard Commey stated in an interview

The Ukrainian poster boy has been rated the pound for pound best in the world and described as talented, still capable of getting so much better, he could reign nearly as long as he wants over the current crop of lightweights.

But the Ghanaian hard puncher holds a contrary opinion and is relishing a date with Lomachenko after Luke Campbell and his immediate mandatory with Teofimo Lopez on December 14.

The Jamestown native also revealed the hard truth in boxing business and how it tilts towards the A side.

“There is a lot to be said about being the A side all of the time, you have a distinct advantage when the promoter, TV network, journalist and everyone else sings your praises.”

Most people in Africa and especially Ghana are of the firm belief that not only will Richard Commey walk past talented young fighter Teofimo Lopez but equally exorcise the myth of invincibility surrounding Vasiliy Lomachenko come fight night and prove that given equal opportunity, there are better fighters out there in the continent and especially in Ghana than any other place.
