I Believe I Will Be A World Champion – National Youth Champion Henry Owusu

The dream of every juvenile boxer in Ghana is to become a world champion.

Chasing this dream, young boxers show dedication by flocking to one of the 24 boxing clubs within the Ga-Mashie area; this is the case of Master Henry Owusu.

Henry, a JHS 2 student of the Bishop Mixed School recounts his journey to victory at Bukom becoming the winner in his weight in the Ghana Boxing Federation and SM promotions fight night.

He said, “I started boxing in 2021. I was invited by my schoolmate Bright Okoe. The gym was near my house so it was easy, I go to training after school”.

Learning boxing according to Henry, has brought light into his life.

“Boxing helped me cope with the death of my mother 2 years ago.

“I have made so many friends and attracted fans from school and my area”.

Henry, who has a growing fan base on Instagram has been praised for his tatics and display of boxing IQ.

!8, a fan of Henry on Instagram wrote under a video of Henry’s fight: “wow! See how he moves, this boy will go to the Olympics.”

Henry is one of the thirty five junior boxers training currently at the Wisdom Boxing Gym, under the guidance of Coach Ofori Asare.

Since joining boxing, Henry has participated in 2 sessions of the Besesaka competition, Greater Accra Regional Competitions and the National Individual Championships in the flyweight and bantamweight categories

Over the weekend, Henry and his club mates participated in the sensitization campaign for boxing in Ghana organized by Wisdom Boxing Gym in collaboration with Dechathlon.

Young boxers were given the opportunity to tour the store and given explanation on the range of equipments available for boxers.

Henry is the current National Youth Bantamweight champion and continues to chase his boxing dreams.
