Homowo Boxing Cup Champion, Caleb Mensah Eyes Commonwealth Games In Australia

“Feels like a dream, but it’s not. I am the 48kg Champion.”

 

Caleb Mensah in a self reflection session with Boxinghana.com has been reflecting on his victory on the 20th of August 2023, during the 2023 Greater Accra Boxing Association Homowo Box Cup. The competition attracted 150 boxers from 18 clubs within the Greater Accra Region.

Caleb Mensah, one of the 13 boxers who came out as champions on the night believes his future is about to turn a lot more bright.

 

 

Caleb, 17, is a second year student at St. Thomas Aquinas as well as a Besesaka Boxeducation Ambassador.

Caleb turned to boxing at the age of 11 when he gained interest by following his cousins James and Bright Okoe to Wisdom Boxing Gym.

 

The former captain for the National Junior Team has shown promise and consistency in his pursuit of boxing dreams. Caleb says his dream is to become an accountant and a world champion.

 

In his own words he describes how winning felt; “It was a very emotional moment for me when I was announced as the winner. I dedicate this win to Coach Ofori Asare and all the assistant Coaches for assisting me achieve this historical success.”

The young boxer continues to chase his dreams by continuing with training and studying as well. Caleb says his target is to represent Ghana at the next Commonwealth Games in Australia.

 

He took the opportunity to wish the Bombers and Hitters good luck in their chase for slots to Paris 2024.
