“Great night but i got to say I was not really impressed with you though….empty vessels make most noise” current International Boxing Federation lightweight world champion Richard Commey aimed a thinly-veiled dig at 2018 Prospect of the Year, Teofimo Lopez when he floored Edis Tatli in 5 at the Famous Madison Square Gardens on Saturday.
Richard Commey was there for one reason aside watching the titanic bout between two champions in Terence Crawford and Amir Khan which the latter was dispatched in the 6th round. Richard Commey was there to witness on first sight the bout between one of the rapidly developing youngsters in the lightweight division, American Teofimo Lopez who has called him out several times for bout.
But the Ghanaian was least impressed with the output of Teofimo Lopez (13-0, 11 KOs) when he clashed gloves with Edis Tatli (31-3, 10 KOs). Though Lopez defended his NABF lightweight belt via a round 5 TKO, the Ghanaian hard puncher saw a lot of hype and immaturity on the side of the young fighter. The IBF lightweight champion resulted to Twitter to register his observations
“Great night but i got to say I was not really impressed with you though….empty vessels make most noise” twitted Richard Commey.
On the night, Lopez himself registered his displeasure at his training camp.
“I didn’t have the best camp, but I did what I needed to do and came out victorious,” Lopez said. “I knew I was going to get him with a body shot. I softened him up and finished him.
“I want a world title shot next. That’s what I want. We promised to take over the show, and once again, I took it over.” He expressed.
Richard Commey is set to make his first defense of the strap he won against Russian Isa Chaniev on February 2 when he KOed Chaniev in round two.
