The second fight night of Season 2 of the Ghana Professional Boxing League occurred on Saturday, 25th March, 2023 at the Bukom Boxing Arena. The event which was expected to feature 7 bouts from 14 clubs, only had 5 bouts from 10 clubs participating on the night.
Bouts 6 and 7 on the program did not happen, in bout 6 the boxer presented by Palm Spring Gym (one of the merged clubs of the competition) was rejected for his credibility, whereas Ghana Prisons Service officer cum professional boxer’s opponent withdrew from the competition.
The 5 card bout was thrilling as fans had a feel of both big and smaller weight actions.
The ultimate bout of the night was between current National Bantamweight champion Daniel Gorsh and Former Black Bomber and upcoming professional from Attoh Quarshie, Akimos Ampiah in an 8-round bantamweight contest.
This bout would have been more exciting if the National Bantamweight Title had been put up for contention and the bout extended to 12 rounds. This was because the boxers kept their energy as fans yearn for more. The two boxers kept the fight at the center of the ring, trading punches and keeping the fans up on their feet with excitement.
Daniel Gorsh of Bronx Boxing Gym came out victorious in the closely contested bout. All 3 judges scored in favour of Gorsh:
Judge one scored the bout 80-74, Judge two scored the bout 79-73, and Judge three scored the bout 79-73.
Fans of Ampiah thought the bout should have been a draw or split point as their champion was in the game all night. Akimos Ampiah requested a rematch immediately after the fight explaining that he believes he did enough to have won the bout. He however respects the decision of the judges and would like another opportunity to prove he’s the real victor of this battle.
Other exciting bouts on the night were Samuel Adjetey Sowah (Bridge) Vs. Godson Amuzu ( CQBF); LCP Moro Inusah Kanlah (Armed Forces) Vs. Prince Arhin (SeaView/WillPower).
Majid Jabaon (Fit Square ) Vs. Haruna Mohammed (Wisdom) contested in a 6 round Heavyweight bout.
The results on the night were as follows;
Samuel Adjetey Sowah decisioned Godson Amuzu.
LCP Moro Inusah Kanlah declared victorious after 6 rounds.
Haruna Mohammed knocked out Majid Jaboan.
The fight night also featured musical performances by Adote Tintor and Bukom Banku. IMAX promotions in collaboration with Ghana Boxing Authority will return with another event in 2 weeks.
