Ghana after waiting 29years for an Olympic medal has been blessed yet again after the heroics of the three members from Ghana national boxing team and their able corner ensured Ghana makes it to the medal zone.
Coach Dr. Ofori Asare who has been very inspirational both at and off camp through his experience as a former boxer and skipper of the Black Bombers instilled the same discipline and composure in his team to help them reach the level they did.
After Samed Shakul and Sulemanu Tetteh were knocked out of the round of 16, the hurdle was left to Takyi who did not disappoint after showing promise againts Duke Regan who is a pro boxer. His experience in been a pro gave him an edge over the Ghanaian boxer who still got the accolades from both announcers and judges.
Although Ghana at the Tokyo Olympic games won one medal, many factors taken into consideration pushed Ghana as favourites to represent Africa on the podium during the closing ceremony.
Samuel ‘Ring Warrior’ Takyi who was acclaimed a ferociously enterprising boxer was given the nord to represent Ghana and Africa next to the IOC president during the closing ceremony.
This sure says a lot about the efforts of the team and their management and their efforts to reach where they did in the Olymics.
Ghana Ambassador to Japan, His Ex. Frank Okyere stated in a meeting with the Ghanaian team, “we have been praised for how composed we were during camp and after camp, our time at the games village has been highly recommended and i am very proud of the team”.
