Ghanaian-American young prodigy, Joseph Awinongya Jr. qualifies for USA nationals tournament.

Standout athlete representing the state of Illinois Joseph Awinongya Jr. aka JoJo was at it again, trailblazing his state to qualify for the prestigious USA nationals, which took place at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio.

The 2019 Eastern Elite Qualifier & Regional Open was a week-long event concluded with the 13 Olympic weight class finals. The two finalists in each weight punched their ticket to the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Boxing this December in Lake Charles, Los Angeles.

The Ghanaian native, nicknamed Iwin, was the sole touchbearer for the state of Illinois after their over forty athletes failed to make the progression.

Joseph Awinongya Jr  is currently the number ‘1’  best athlete in the 90 lbs division in the whole of the United States, and a 6-time National Champion. The stylish young boxer who posses some excellent skillset with his impressive ring IQ is undoubtedly a star of the future, as he most recently won gold at the Junior Olympics National Championship held in June 23 – 29, 2019 in Madison, Wisconsin. A feat he has achieved twice.

Watch how the 2x National Silver Gloves Champion became the sole representative from the state of Illinois by dispatching another crack opponent, whom en-route to the finals defeated former champions.
