Ghana is no doubt a power house in boxing and a key force to recorn with on the African continent after having own Africa’s only medalist at the Olympics (Tokyo 2020) in the boxing sport and 10 world titles under its belt. Ghana is ranked the 2nd highest world title winners from Africa after South Africa.
Currently, Ghana has no world champion inspite of it’s many prospects pushing their way to the top both locally and on the international front.
Ghana is also becoming a hub for various boxers from Africa, especially the West African sub-region to pursue their boxing dreams. The Deluxy Professional Boxing League has also highlighted their presence much more.
The league has featured since its inception a Béninois from the Black Panthers Boxing Foundation and a Tanzanian from Fit Square Boxing Club. However, these are not the only non-Ghanaian Nationals fighting in Ghana, most boxing clubs within Accra have at least one non Ghanaian boxer. However, the question we ask is, how does this diversity benefit our industry? How can Ghana leverage on it’s vibrant boxing landscape to gain more recognition Globally?
