The Ghana Boxing Supporters Union (GBSU) has sent congratulatory message to the Black Meteors, the Olympic team for qualifying to the next stage of the competition leading to the Tokyo 2020 Games.

Coach Carl Lokko who is a founding father and executive member said the feat achieved by the young players is laudable and worthy to comment on.

The head trainer at Bronx Boxing Gym expressed that the Black Meteors were written off after drawing 1-1 in Accra, but they went to Algiers to beat the Algerians on their favourite pitch after skipper Yaw Yeboah has mesmerized the defence and scored the lone goal.

He said the boxing fraternity is solidly behind the national U23 football team to qualify to inspire the other disciplines to follow suite.

“We know that if football qualifies who can get support for our boxers too, so we support them fully. We support the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) President to succeed in his term of office, and God will continue to bless Ghana Sports” he said.

President of GBSU, Stephen Ashie also said Ghana must make it in football, because the game draws large spectators and they are hoping to travel to Japan to support Team Ghana.

“Though we are GBSU, we love and support all other sports disciplines like weightlifting, tennis, golf, swimming, hockey, basketball, track & field, judo, taekwondo, handball, volleyball and kickboxing, just to mention a few” he added.

Sammy Gyan, Vice President of GBSU and master drummer was of the view that the various teams need support to perform so the government and corporate bodies must aid sports fans to travel to cheer Team Ghana.
