Ghana Based Béninois, Adam Salanon vows to win first World title for his country

Adam Hab-deen Salanon is one of the boxers who shared their experience about living in Ghana earlier this week. Today, we dive deeper to learn more about the Béninois.

Hab-deen Salanon is chasing a dream of becoming Benin’s first World Champion and is grateful Ghana is fueling his dreams.

Salanon, first came to Ghana in December 2021 for a fight, little did he know he will be staying in Ghana as well as participating in the De-luxy Professional Boxing League.

Adam Hab-deen Salanon was born in Agbokpa, Benin twenty two years ago to a Nigerian mum and a Béninois Dad. The southpaw was born a twin, but his brother is late. Growing up, all he longed for was a better life and he sees boxing as a path leading to his destination.

Salanon first schooled in Benin, dropping out in the sixth form, later relocated to Nigeria where he resumed school again dropping out at Senior High School form 2. He explains that as he was growing, life was becoming hard for him as he was not sure the career path to take at first. Also, he was not comfortable depending on his parents for is daily sustainance.

“I wanted to work and take care of myself, and that is when I decided to become a boxer” explained Salanon.

The Super bantamweight boxer has a fight record of 7 fights; 6 wins and 1 loss. He also has an impressive amateur background, is a 2 time Benin Amateur National Champion (2015-2016) and a participant in the qualifies for African Games in Guinea, Conakry.

Salanon explains that he is happy living in Ghana as a vibrant boxing nation, where he can get opportunity to fight regularly. According to Adam, Ghana is better for his career compared to when he was in Benin.

However, his stay in Ghana has not been all roses, he said “it was hard in the beginning, now it is not 100%, but better than when I started”.

“Boxing is a good sport, it has given me exposure and helped me travel to Brazil, France, Ghana, many places. My dream is to become a champion, my country has not won any world title yet and I will be the one to make it possible.”
