At the Emirates Arena this morning Ghana’s George Ashie (28-5-1, 20 KOs) tasted defeat at the hands of Former European Lightweight Champion Stephen Armond (26-5,13 KOs) in a very close bout at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow-Scotland.
Nicknamed “The Rock,”Armond was very fortunate to have gone away with a Unanimous Decision with the scorecards 95-94 in his favour.
Once again the technical aspect of the game must be worked on especially on the part of the Ghanaian.
Speaking with ahead of the fight Armond was confident of leveraging on Ashie for a shot at WBO Champion Raymondo Beltran.
“I want to be right at the top of this sport and once I take Ashie’s WBO world ranking, the sky is really the limit for me. Everything seems to be happening at the right time for me because I matured late in my career.
“When I beat Ashie, I believe I’ll be close to being in a position to challenge Raymundo Beltra for the world title. With MTK Global behind me, anything is possible and I’d like to thank them for putting this fight on.” Armond stated before the fight.
Truth be told, Armond was there for the kill but Ashie needs to work on his killer instincts. He is a hard hitter but must really work on the basics.
Here in Scotland not many expected Armond to command victory over Ashie but then again did the African do enough to cement victory?
