GBF Course For Amatuer Referee / Judges Ends On Friday

About 35 potential referee / judges drawn from across the country are undergoing an intensive training exercise at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra under the auspices of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) and instructed by experienced boxing referee/judge/coach, Theophilus Edwin Addo aka Amankwah.

Former Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) boss, Moses Foh-Amoaning, GBF President, George Lamptey and his Vice, Alhaji Abdul Samadu Mohammed and Black Bombers coach, Ofori Asare were some of the dignitaries present at the opening ceremony at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Monday for the programme which runs till Friday.

Moses Foe Amoaning advised the participants to take the course serious, while Black Bomber coach, Ofori Asare urged them to be practical and do more demonstrations for the boxer and officials to see the real things in the game.

Instructor Edwin Theo Addo hinted that undergoing periodic courses are very important as one learns new trends and tricks in the game.

George Lamptey, President of the Ghana Boxing Federation said the nation needs very competent match officials, like they need very good boxers.

He urged boxing fans also to learn the rules and regulations to the noble art of self defence.

He said Ghana has mass boxing talents, as not all of them can box, but some are coaches, while others can become referees and judges as well as cut men and assistant coaches.

Ghana won one bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, and the President of the Federations says the sport can grow if there are more investments in the boxers, by way of training tours and inviting quality opposition for training and exposure.
