The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) new office at the Bukom Boxing Arena has been dedicated and opened to the general public for business.
The office which would serve the administrative needs of the body that controls boxing in Ghana was opened last Friday by Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, Techncal Adviser at the Ministry of Youth & Sports who represented the Ministry.
The colourful and memorable opening ceremony was graced by boxing dignitaries including D. K Poison, Ghana’s first boxing champion, Former GBA Bosses, Samir Captan and Moses Foh-Amoaning, Joseph King Kong Agbeko, former world champions and Thunder Ayeh, former Commonwealth champion.
The new office was handed over to the Ghana Boxing Authority by officials of the Trust Sports Emporium, managers of the facility after the boxing controlling body had operated at the Accra Sports Stadium since its establishment.
President of GBA, Mr. Peter Zwennes expressed appreciation to the facility managers for providing them with a secretariat, where they can run their own business effectively and efficiently.
“The management of Trust Sports Emporium graciously offered to donate the office for our purposes sometime last year and we are grateful to them.
“After the office space was given to us, we needed to complete it, by doing some outstanding works.
“Thankfully we got donation from Agriculture Development Bank and Ghana Olympic Committee, which aided us in bringing the office to in its current state, but there were still a lot more work to be done” Mr Zwennes noted.
“So we appealing to sponsors to come to our aid, so we could apply the finishing touches to the office,” he ended.
The Sports Emporium also donated some boxing equipment to the GBA, which would be distributed among regional federations.
The GBA President thanked the Ghana Olympic Committee (GBA) and the GNPC as well as ABD for coming in to support boxing, as they contributed to the new Bukom Fist of Fury Boxing League starting on September 28, 2018.
The logo of the Boxing League was unveiled, and the Ghana National Juvenile Boxing Committee was inaugurated before the opening of the new GBA office.
Some of the highlights of the boxing league is the introduction of the fashion parade dubbed Fistic Box Biz Explosion where made in Ghana fashion will be exhibited, as well as a food court to show types of delicious food in Ghana, and championship fights for West Africa, Africa and Commonwealth belts..
