Boxing lovers are invited to the Museum of Science and Technology (Barnes Road, Accra) where the Exhibition on GA- Mashie Boxing Heritage dubbed, “Jamestown Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” is ongoing.
The ongoing exhibition started last Thursday, 27th January and is schedule to end on Friday, 4th February. It’s featuring Wisdom Boxing Gym, Attoh Quarshie Boxing Gym, Sea View Boxing Club, Besesaka and Black Panthers Boxing Foundation.
The exhibition, which is organized by Imagining Ghanaian Futures project at the University of Ghana, showcases objects, sounds, audio-visuals, performances and textual narratives among other things that vivify boxing beyond its recreational and commercial values as a means by which life is negotiated and transformed positively in the Ga-Mashie community.
It re-tells the Ga-Mashie story from a public historical point of view to complement official histories that abound. It’s goal is to enhance knowledge production and sharing in boxing as an aspect of Ghana’s cultural heritage and history that unites rather than separate citizens, which can be harnessed towards realizations of social justice, peace, harmony and sustainable development.
