Something special is brewing in the states at the annual Jose Sulaiman  World Invitational Tournamant in Toronto, Canada.

Ghana’s sole ‘General’ Frederick Okunka Lawson is ready to set the standard in the penultimate match-up with fellow African Chris Van Heerden.

The date is set for Saturday the 25th of this month which coincidentally happens to be the same date for the match-up between Ghana’s defending champion Dogboe and his challenger, Japanese Hidenori Otake.

Nicknamed the “General Okunka,” Lawson is very upbeat ahead of the showdown on Saturday.

“I have come a long way, and I believe this is my time. Chris may be experienced and all but trust me this is my time.” Freddie told Boxing Ghana’s Samuel Ofosuhene in an interview.

“I was never serious with boxing when I was in Ghana but coming to the states has taught me a lot about boxing. Both the technical and the tactical aspects. Now I think and breath boxing.” Lawson confessed.

“I have good technical handlers and I know I am ready for the fight. And all I need from Ghanaian’ s is their support and prayers.” He articulated when quizzed.

The South African Chris Van Heerden who is popularly called the ‘Heat’  has won 26 fights so far, lost twice and has 12 KOs with a draw.

The former IBO champion defended the belt twice but was compelled to  relinquished his title in 2013 for seemingly lack of respect for the IBO strap.

He must now fight a hungry in-form Ghanaian who is simply peaking at the right time.

With a knockout percentage of 75, Lawson has 136 rounds of boxing in 28 bouts. 27 victories so far with 21 coming by way of TKO’s and his only defeat was against the Canadian Kevin Bizier who has long gone into oblivion.

There is a lot of respect going into the penultimate fight  as the two boxers are equally weary  of each other.

It’s definitely a battle set for the gods.

One thing is for Sure though, Frederick Lawson is ticking all the right boxes for greatness.
