Everything may have come to a stand still globallym including the world of the sweet science of boxing as we all join hands together to fight COVID19.

But let’s look back at a rising warrior of Africa, a Liberian born, the former ABU and WBO European Welter titlist in Freddy “Pretty Boy” Kiwitt.

The Managing Editor of Boxing Ghana (Boxinghana.com), Samuel Ofosuhene, engaged with the world titlist prospect on his recent fight, lessons learnt and his future ambition. Enjoy the convo.

Que: What can you say about your last defeat…any lessons, what went wrong and what should we be expecting?

Kiwitt: My last defeat was a very painful one. It felt like my first loss actually. But not because Clay was so good. It’s because I was so bad. I fell sick a few days before the fight but still confident that I could beat him.

It was a life changing opportunity which I didn’t wanted to miss out on. First fight aired Globally for a A Global belt and to shoot into the top 10 in the WBO by the biggest promoter in the world.

I felt good and felt I was leading going into the first half of the fight. But suddenly started to feel very weak from the 5th round.

Everyone who knows me, know I get better whiles the fight went on. I was fighting on 60%. I don’t take anything away from Clay. It was a close fight to the end, but if he would be that good, he should have finished me then.

Freddy KIWITT versus WBO Global Welterweight champion Luther Clay

I learned that I should listen to my intuition more and be smarter about my decisions. How confident I was, I thought I’ll beat him even when I was sick and I don’t think it was a smart thing to do now, looking back. But I’m a fighter and I don’t pull out or give in. I wish Clay all the best in the future and hope I can revenge myself soon.

Que: Is the world title ambition still alive?

Kiwitt: Of course my dream is still to become a world champion. It will just take a bit longer now.
My last fight was meant to be against Eric Kapia. A dangerous opponent with a great record. I wanted to test myself and wanted to waste no time. Because of the coronavirus, it didn’t come on. But I hope I’ll be back to fight in Ghana soon.

Boxing is hoping for the end of the global pandemic to pass very soon so we kick off with the sweet science again and hope for more world titles for the African continent. But till then, stay safe as we adhere to the rules and measures in kicking Covid 19 out.
