Staying hydrated is an essential part of healthy training habits for boxers.
Experts at FIGHT CAMP through their website have advised boxers to drink water constantly to replace lost fluids during workouts. A quote from the article reads
“For boxers, proper hydration is just as much about their health as it is about performance. A dehydrated body simply cannot perform athletically. All athletes, including boxers, need copious amounts of water when training to compensate for water loss through sweat and breathing”
The intensity of boxing workout requires that boxers keep hydrated to get the best performance result. One of the key benefits of hydration according to experts is improved brain performance.
The American Dietetic Association, Dietitians of Canada and the American College of Sports Medicine recommends that boxers observe the following hydration guidelines
- Drink 14-22 ounces around 2 hours before a workout
2.Drink 6-12 ounces every 15-20 minutes during a workout
- Drink 16-24 ounces to replenish for every pound lost during a workout.
Boxers are advised to drink more water to avoid dehydration. This is because even mild dehydration—as little as 2% fluid loss—can affect memory, mood, concentration and reaction time. The above are all important for every boxer to achieve his dreams.
