Former two time bantamweight world champion Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko has pointed to a myriad of reasons behind Ghanaian boxers’ failures in recent years on the international stage.
He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports in the aftermath of three consecutive losses for Ghanaian boxers this year.
George Ashie, Richard Commey and Isaac Dogboe lost bouts to Alexis Rocha, Jose Ramirez and Robeisy Ramirez respectively prompting serious concerns over the state of the sport in Ghana.
Addressing the issue, Agbeko stated,
“Some of the boys don’t have the right kind of management that can properly manage them…some of them their managers are not giving them enough for them to be able to feel comfortable to be able to prepare for fights. Others too they get fight on short notice…because they are not making money so they have to go and fight.”
Agbeko in the interview, run down the idea of Isaac Dogboe changing weight class rather urging The Royal Storm to stay put in the featherweight division.
