Last Sunday’s Professional Boxing League bouts’ sheet included 2 non scoring fights on the league table. The first was between Charles Narh Tetteh and Nathaniel Nukpe and the second was between Faisal Abubakar and Uche Batholomew.
The bout between Abubakari and Batholomew was listed as a 10-round contest. However in the 8th round, the card girl signalled it as the final round. This was protested by Batholomew as it was even announced before the fight began that it was a 10 round contest.
Faisal Abubakar had a huge support base coming into the fight. One fascinating aspect of this fight was the support; there was a whole brass band in attendance singing throughout the 8 rounds in support for Faisal urging him to beat the Nigerian Uche Abuchi Batholomew.
Faisal fought well in each round of the contest. He was the most prominent in the opening rounds as he entertained the crowd with excellent footworks and brilliant combinations in round 2.
Batholomew responded in round 3 and 4 with hooks and multiple right jabs.
Round 7 was full of action as both boxers worked to outbox each other.
The bout was very engaging, all three judges scored the bout 80-72 in favour of the Ghanaian Faisal Abubakari, AKA Poncho Power.
Batholomew received a round of applause as he walked out of the ring. Speaking with Boxinghana.com, he expressed his appreciation on fighting in Ghana. He explained that he was managing his punches as he had signed for a 10-round bout. Though he wasn’t happy the bout ended early, he was satisfied with his performance.
He said “It’s not easy to fight in another country. I am not happy I lost, I will come back again. We have asked for a rematch already.”
Stay with Boxinghana.com to provide you with details of a rematch as soon as it’s announced.
