Fight week is here as we get ready to rumble this Saturday at The Bubble, MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA where former IBF world champion Richard Commey launches his come back against Jackson Marinez.
Manager of the former champion Michael Amoo-Bediako Snr in a chat gave us a brief insight on how the road to this important fight has been so far with regards to Commey’s preparedness, enjoy the convo
Que: Its just a few days to fight night for champ Richard Commey, how prepared is Team Commey?
Ans: Richard is very well prepared, he has been training hard with trainers Andre Rozier and Gary Stark and has also been doing a lot of strength and conditioning with Dave Honig (Scooter), Richard has also been receiving some very good sparring with some top prospects in the United States so he is ready!!!
Que: We’re not in normal times currently amidst this covid pandemic, has there been any challenges getting Richard ready for this important fight?
Ans: Obviously because of the pandemic everyone has to take extra care and there have been restrictions in regarding where to train but Richard and his team have coped well with it and everything has gone according to plan.
Que: I believe Richard is mightily psyched for this come back fight, should we expect a KO ?
Ans: Well you know Richard is taught not to go for the KO but believe in his boxing skills and if the KO comes so be it. Richard knows the importance of this fight as it is a step to get him back to the world title which he desires most so he will be very focused come fight night.
Que: After this fight, what next? What opponents have been targeted for Commey after Feb 13 fight?
Ans: We do not look past the opponent directly in front of us, that would be very disrespectful to Marinez. The most important thing is to get the victory then we will go from there.
Que: What message do you have for the fans here at home (Ghana) and across the globe?
Ans: To know that Richard has trained hard for this fight and is ready on his road to redemption to recapture his world title. To pray that Richard gets the victory to make Ghana proud again amongst the boxing fraternity.
