The former IBF World champion Richard Oblitey Commey has been off the ring for a while with many wondering what’s happening in his camp. After the champ lost his title way back in 2019, he was immediately poised to redeem his title back with plans being laid by his manger Michael Amoo-Bediako Snr and his promoter Lou Dibella.
Unfortunately, the world was hit by the corona virus pandemic which halted events across the world, making an immediate come back for the Streetwise Foundation Ambassador impossible. Richard Commey thereafter launched his road to redemption mission on February 13 this year when the green light was shown for boxing to resume with a comeback clash with the former WBA Fedelatin light champion Jackson Marinez where he knocked him out in the 6th round.
The fight took place at The Bubble, MGM Grand in Las Vegas being the headline bout at the event and caught the attention of Teofimo Lopez who was at the grounds to watch as well as other lightweight prospects who could come his way on the mission.
The UNACWCA Goodwill Ambassador, having launched his comeback early this year has been waiting for a ready opponent who will be a good step to nearing a world title shot. The good news finally here as his manager Michael Amoo-Bediako Snr revealed exclusively to Boxing Ghana when next to expect the champ in the ring
“Camp has been going well, as you know Richard is very rarely out of the gym as he likes to keep himself in shape but until we get a confirmed date Richard is just ticking over.
He continued
“We are working on a date for his return which looks like September and we are looking at a number of opponents but nothing definite for now. Mr. Amoo disclosed.
The wait is almost over for Commey’s fans around the world as we should expect an annoucement pretty soon before July ends.
