The IBF International Lightweight champion, Emmanuel ‘GameBoy’ Tagoe (31-1, 15KOs) is set to face Filipino’s Rey Perez (24-11, 8KOs) on March 12th in Warehouse at Magic City Innovation District, Miami, Florida, USA.

Game Boy has been keen on getting a world title shot after he was stripped off the IBO World strap he won 2 years ago at the Bukom Boxing Arena, Accra, Ghana. On the verge of winning back a world title, he’s gone on a winning spree earning him the WBO Africa Light title as well as the IBF International light strap in the process.

Emmanuel Tagoe is currently the #2 on the WBO ranking in the lightweight division, making him eligible for a world title shot. His manager, Peter Kahn, is therefore traveling to Puerto Rico today to meet the WBO about Tagoe’s position and will also be looking to implement a title eliminator since Kahn’s other lightweight contender George Kambosos will be fighting Lee Selby in an IBF world title eliminator to determine the mandatory position.

Selby who is the WBO #1 rated fighter will leave that position vacant when he fights Kambosos on May 9 in Cardiff, Wales. Kahn is looking to push the WBO to order an eliminator with the two highest rated contenders which include Tagoe and Ryan Garcia who is with Golden Boy Promotions.

First, Tagoe has to get passed Rey Perez who last fought on the 19th of January, 2019, losing in the process via a UD to George Kambosos Jnr (18-0, 10KOs).

The Ghanaian is under the tutelage of renowned boxing trainer Javiel Centeno and Tagoe’s manager, Peter Kahn, was recently nominated by the Boxing Writers Association of America for 2019 Manager of the year.
