A fight of this magnitude has been missing in our boxing space for a while and both George Ashie and Robert Quaye are determined to give the fans something they have been waiting for a while now.

George Ashie, a 37  year old Super Lightweight boxer with fight record of 32 wins and 5 losses considers himself a knockout specialist as he has knocked out 24 of his opponents representing 64% of his total victories. According to Ashie, for the past 5 years he has not had a manager but with the support of his coaches, he keeps moving forward.

Speaking exclusively with BoxinGhana.com, Ashie said “Although a lot of people consider this fight as a tension fight, it was very simple for him to decide whether or not to fight Quaye because in boxing we fight to move forward“.

George has been in several crowd pulling fights fighting against popular Ghanaian boxers including Michael ‘One Bullet’ Ansah, Ishmeal Aryeetey, Yakubu Amidu and Emmanuel ‘Gameboy’ Tagoe.

Sarah Lotus Asare (SLA): How are you preparing differently from your previous fights?

George Ashie : Going into this fight I have been working with a coaching staff of 5 from the Attoh Quarshie Boxing Gym. These Coaches ( Akai Washington, Osman, Sowah, Korley and Figo) have been working with me and I am confident of winning. SLA: What is your target going into this fight?

George: I mean to win, I will not name a round because the opponent will protect himself, but I am a knockout specialist so I have several styles up my sleeve, once the opportunity presents itself I will go for it.

SLA: What do you hope to achieve before you retire from boxing ?

George: You know we do boxing to help our family and friends

SLA: What is your fight purse?

George: Oh in Ghana we don’t fight for money, I am not looking at the purse, fighting in Ghana you will not make money, I am fighting for the title to come into the rankings and get a shot for a world title fight.

SLA: Still share the amount with us

George: 10,000 Ghana cedis, 100 million old currency. That’s why I said it’s not enough.

SLA: What is your plan after this bout, let’s look at it in two ways? One, if you win what will you do next?

George: I aim to win this bout because it’s a stepping stone for me. This is not the fight my team are aiming for, we are taking this opportunity to get bigger fights, after this fight I will not sit down, I will train harder because when you have a title it’s like gold, everyone wants it. After this fight I will come into the world ranking and hopefully get a world title shot. We want to win so bigger fights will come.

SLA: Should the unfortunate happen and you lose what will do?

George: We will win, I always aim for a win but if I don’t I will prepare for another title fight.

SLA: Final words to draw fans to the Arena

George: I want to invite all my fans to come to the Arena, they should believe in me, they know what I can do and I will do it for them? For now they should pray for good health and well-being for me.

George Ashie also stated that he does not have a manager and will like to have one or a top promoter to push him for a world title shot.
