Boxing guru and co-manager of WBO Global, IBF International, as well as WBO Africa titlist Peter Kahn has revealed to boxing his plans for Ghana’s witty and stylish boxer Emmanuel Tagoe, securing him the number one spot in the latest rankings released in May.
When BoxingGhana.com’s Samuel Ofosuhene caught up with the classy and experience boxing manager who doubles as a writer in a short interview, this is what ensued;
Que: Congratulations Peter. Your boxer is now ranked number one in the WBO….What is the plan, now that Emmanuel Tagoe is rated number 1?
Ans: “Emmanuel Tagoe is going to stay busy and defend his WBO Global title. We’re working on his next fight date right now. It’s either going to be at the end of June or in early July.”
Que: Should Ghanaians and boxing fans be expecting a Tagoe vs Lomachenko this year ?
Ans: “Tagoe will not be facing Lomachenko in 2019. That is unrealistic due to logistics. It looks like Lomachenko is going to be fighting Luke Campbell for the WBC title. If he defeats Campbell, I think he might continue his path toward unification, which would mean the IBF. With Commey fighting Beltran in June, there could be a possibility of the winner of that fight facing Lomachenko should Lomachenko defeat Campbell. Then there’s the Teofimo Lopez, who Top Rank is positioning for a fight with Lomachenko, so I’m not really sure how this will all play out, but Tagoe is in a great position to challenge for the WBO world title in 2020.”
“The key is that he will remain busy against quality opposition and will be sharp and ready to win a world title when the opportunity is presented. It’s not a matter of it, it’s a matter of when.”
“I have had dialogue with Asamoah Gyan and Baffour Gyan recently. I spent a half hour on the phone with Asamoah recently and he is very knowledgeable about the sport and the current landscape of the lightweight division. Their support of Gameboy along with DiBella Entertainment will be very important to Tagoe’s success moving forward.”
Credit must be accorded the new management of the self styled ‘Game Boy’ for working very assiduously to get the Jamestown native to a world title contention.
Peter Kahn and Abraham Kotei Neequaye have proven beyond any shred of doubts that they know the game. BoxingGhana.com will update readers on some exclusives from Peter Kahn in our subsequent reportages as Emmanuel Tagoe prepares for his second defense on a soon to be announced opponent.
