Ghana continues to strive in Amateur boxing as George Lamptey, former president of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) successfully passes his IBA International Technical Officials exams.

George Lamptey, the immediate past President of Ghana Boxing Federation during the golden series tournament in Morocco has been through training and has finally been cleared as an International Technical Official by the International Boxing Association (IBA).

International Technical Officials (ITOs) are supervisors trained by IBA to ensure that competitions run under the latest Rules. They are trained to be conversant with the IBA rules, enabling them to make the right decisions during IBA Competitions and maintain fair play and neutrality for the benefit of all competitors.

This new role puts one more official forward for Ghana amateur boxing as Coach Ofori Asare was recently appointed as a member of the IBA Coaches Committee for Africa and the Global stage.

Speaking exclusively with George Lamptey, he disclosed his excitement for passing the exams and expressed his willingness to contribute his quota to the development of amateur boxing in Ghana.

“Amateur Boxing in Ghana is on the rise again starting with the win of a bronze medal by Samuel Takyi during my administration.

“Amateur boxing won several awards that year at the SWAG Awards including me picking up the sports administrator award. However, more has to be done, real competitions must be held and I’m looking forward to an invitation from the current executives to make an impact in the sport.”

George Lamptey explains, “I will help the Federation in organizing local and international bouts to conform with IBA standards when they engage my services”.

We congratulate Mr. George Lamptey on his new qualification and look forward to seeing how this impacts on boxing in Ghana.
